"Just 40 minutes north of Port Hope from the 401, Rice Lake is 45 Kilometers long and is the ‘go to’ lake for fishing in the Kawartha's. The local First Nation's called it Pemadashdakota or "lake of the burning plains". Being part of the Trent-Severn Waterway it provides the depth and nourishment for some really big fish. There’s also plenty of weedbeds and some structure that make for an unbelievable amount of panfish that are great to eat but also provide food for the bigger fish. Muskie, Walleye, Large Mouth Bass, Small Mouth Bass, Perch, Crappie and Sunfish can all be found – and caught – in this fishing hatchery type of lake. Bass and Walleye tournaments are held here annually alluding to the kind of fishing that can be had on this lake." ~Bill Taylor (Subarctic contributor)
