"The credit river is an extremely diverse fishery that holds opportunities to fish for migratory species in the spring, through the winter and in the fall. The upper stretches have incredible resident trout populations and in the still water sections many warm water species can be found as well. Migratory species include Steelhead, Brown Trout, Atlantic Salmon, and Chinook Salmon. It is not uncommon to come across steelhead above 10 pounds and Chinook reaching weights of more than 30lbs as well. This past season I was lucky enough to hook into a 15lb migratory brown trout as well, which shows the potential for trophy fish in this system. In the upper stretches of this river there is exceptional trout fishing. Rainbow trout, Atlantic salmon yearlings and brook trout can be caught consistently, and the most sought after being completely wild brown trout native to the Credit River. Fish over 20 inches are caught regularly and fish ranging from 25-30 inches are rare but definitely live in this system. The upper stretches are very calm and clear sections that require very quiet and careful wading, with the right approach it is not uncommon to have 50-100 fish days. Most sections of the upper river are catch and release only, with single barbless hooks being mandatory; ensuring this river will continue to thrive and be one of the best fishing destinations in Halton Hills."
